Tuvalu develops new culture policy
11 October 2017
The Tuvalu National Culture Policy aims to raise the profile of the culture sector and provide strategic direction in order to ensure a more visible and effective integration of culture into economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.
The Tuvalu Government has identified a need to reinvigorate culture for sustainable development through the elaboration of a Tuvalu National Culture Policy (TNCP). Based on this, a Draft Tuvalu National Culture Policy: Strategic Plan 2018-2024 has been developed through an extensive consultative process in 2016 and 2017 with policy support from UNESCO. The TNCP aims to raise the profile of the culture sector and provide strategic direction in order to ensure a more visible and effective integration of culture into economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development, within the framework of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development (2016-2020).
As the final step, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Rural Development in Tuvalu will organise a Multi-stakeholder Consultation on Tuvalu National Culture Policy: Strategic Plan 2018-2024 in Funafuti from 17–18 of October 2017. This Consultation is supported by the Rei Foundation Limited.
