Folktale stage adaptations begin
21 May 2018
On Saturday 12 May 2018, the official launch of the Malawi Folktales Theatre Project was held at Blantyre Sports Club.
With the collaboration of Rei Foundation and Sony Corporation, a team from the Malawi National Commission for UNESCO (MNCU) and the National Library Service (NLS) collected and recorded Malawian folktales. These were collected nationwide and are reflective of the rich cultural heritage of Malawi. As a way of disseminating these folktales, Nanzikambe Arts is now adapting and dramatising the folktales on stage.
Over the upcoming weeks, Nanzikambe Arts, supported by MNCU and Rei Foundation Limited, will present staged adaptations of five traditional folktales in Blantyre District.
The Nyasa Times featured the launch event on their website.
